December 8, 2010 – Food
Scripture: Luke 15: 22-23 (NIV)
But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate.’
Devotion:
What would a celebration be without food? Some of my favorite memories center around meals (yes, I love to eat!) and sitting down to Christmas dinner is very much a part of our celebration.
God provided food for Adam and Eve. It’s one of His first gifts to them. And its no accident that one of the holiest rituals of the Christian church is a meal – the Last Supper or Communion. And many of us have in our heads a vision of that great celebratory banquet in heaven. God wants, like the father in Luke 15, to throw a party for us. He’s done everything to restore us to our rightful place, we were lost and now we are found. There is much to celebrate.
Think about your favorite Christmas meal. Who was there? What did you have?
Give us the day our daily bread, Father. Feed us with Your manna. Let us take the Bread of Life and be restored once again. Amen.
