I have often struggled with difficulty releasing a situation or need to God – or if I have released it (or thought I had), I take it back again without really realizing I have done so. Then I find myself fretting over something that I supposedly have already released.
Abba revealed something significant to me in a devotional journaling time a while back, about how, sometimes, the reason we hang onto control so tightly is because of something in our past that we may not even remember. Perhaps what he showed me, is at the root of someone else’s difficulty in surrendering control as well, so I decided to share what he showed me. I couldn’t quite figure out how to rewrite it, so I’m just going to quote my journal below.
“You are struggling to release something…It will not be easy, but you can do it. Doing something for yourself, being in charge or in control is a habit you will have to be diligent about releasing. Be aware of how you make choices and decisions. Listen to my Spirit so I can show you, as often as necessary, where you are relying on self and your own understanding instead of on me. Let me show you, step by step, decision by decision, every day, how to continue consciously surrendering until that surrender is the habit you live in instead of depending on yourself.
Let me heal the hurt that led to that assumption/belief that you have to do it yourself because no one else will. There was a time when you were vulnerable and were let down – even if you don’t remember it That event led to you making the choice to accept the lie that you were responsible, that you had to be in charge or take charge to make sure your needs were met, because those who should have done so let you down. You may not remember it because it may not have actually been something significant, more a non-event, but in that moment you were vulnerable and so it seemed to you that you were not being taken care of. You came into agreement with the lie that your enemy had, ready and willing, to trap you in deception so he could derail you from the purpose I had created you for. He knows that if you are trusting in yourself and not me for strength and ability, for responsibility, that prevents my power from fully manifesting in your life. It is only when you are fully surrendered to me that you will fully walk in the power, authority, and calling I have created you for, and he doesn’t want that to happen! He is afraid, even terrified of you, because he knows how powerfully I can work in and through you when you are fully surrendered to my Spirit. When that happens, he is already defeated, and he knows it! Consequently, he does all in his power to keep you focused on your own attempt to take care of whatever it may be, so you will not remember to surrender to my ability to work and and through you. He knows that he has absolutely no power that can even begin to stand against mine, so he doesn’t want my power working in and through you, for he always loses when that happens!
Remember, when you surrender to my power and authority, he ALWAYS loses! In truth, he has already lost, and knows it. But the longer he can carry on with the deception that the war isn’t over, the longer he maintains his power, but it is an illusion. It is stolen power, stolen from you when you agree with his lies. Come into agreement with me instead. Let my power flow fully within you. Stop allowing yourself to be deceived. Stop allowing him to steal your destiny.”
We may know these truths, but it is all to easy to forget and try to hold onto control ourselves, when we are confused or uncertain about something, and have a particular desired result in mind. When we try to maintain control ourselves, all to often we not only prevent God from showing us the better solution, but we allow Satan to hold onto power over our lives that really isn’t his at all.
Don’t let the enemy steal power and authority that isn’t his! Let the Holy Spirit do the work in your life and circumstances that He wants to do.
Be Blessed,
Kathy
